Devlin DeFrancesco bounced back from his Portland weekend to top the Indy Lights timesheets in morning practice at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca but sadly could not replicate that speed in today’s round 17 qualifying session.

The 21-year-old Miami-based Italian-Canadian recorded a fastest time of 1 minute 16.3604 seconds this morning to be P1 and went even faster in qualifying – stopping the clocks at 1:16.0095.

However, the improvement wasn’t enough with DeFrancesco battling oversteer in the qualifying session to end up P7.

He will have an opportunity to improve his grid spot for Sunday’s round 18 with an additional qualifying session tomorrow at 9:45 am.

This weekend’s action can be seen on NBC’s Peacock service; on REVTV in Canada; and on The-Race.com’s YouTube channel in all other international markets.

DEVLIN DEFRANCESCO

“Not the result we were looking for. I battled oversteer during the second run and ended up P7.

“We’ll look to find some improvements overnight for tomorrow’s second session.

“For the first race tomorrow I’m just going to have to concentrate on getting a great start and fighting as hard as I can.

“I went faster on the new tire but not fast enough.”
