With a points finish tantalisingly close last time out in the 2019 FIA Formula 3 Championship for Devlin DeFrancesco, the young Canadian-Italian is itching to dive back in to his season this weekend at the world famous Spa-Francorchamps circuit.
Devlin had his best round to date this year when F3 ventured to the tight and twisty Hungaroring at the beginning of August, but he will face an entirely different proposition in Belgium. The 7km circuit plays host to some of the most challenging and rewarding corners in the world – with its beautiful surroundings makes it a firm favourite with drivers from every level, series and championship.
Spa is a track that Devlin knows well – and loves. In his fantastic 2017 EuroFormula Open campaign, the 19 year old had a strong weekend at the circuit, as he took a trip to the podium for both races of the round. With this in mind, he heads into this weekend feeling refreshed from the summer break and prepared with his good knowledge and experience of the track.
Finishing 12th and 11th on track at the Hungaroring has been a real boost for Devlin going in to the latter part of the season but knows that he’ll need to really hook it up for qualifying to be in with a chance of bettering those results.
“I think in Budapest we had two strong races – we got really unlucky with the qualifying, and as we know, in this championship it’s all about the qualifying.” Devlin reflected
“Going into Spa, I think we can do a good job. We’ve been putting the hours in on the sim, and we’re as prepared as we can be, now let’s go and see what we can bring home this weekend”
The talented field will get their first taste of Spa action as track action begins bright and early Friday morning.
