Focusing on a new challenge, the 2017 Spanish F3 Champion Devlin DeFrancesco will be joining MP Motorsport for the remainder of the 2018 GP3 Season, kicking off at the Red Bull Ring (29th June - 1st July).

The Italian-Canadian protege will be hoping to add to his experience gained from an successful 2017 season, in which he reigned victorious in the Spanish F3 whilst also coming third overall in the Euroformula Open Championship.

With illustrious alumni including current F1 stars Vatterli Bottas, Carlos Sainz Jr, Esteban Occon and rookie Charles Leclerc. As well as F2 front runners George Russell and Jack Aitken, GP3 is seen as near-essential step on the ladder to the pinnacle of motorsport.

Competing exclusively on the Formula 1 calendar, the series offers a drivers a taste of whats to come with the introduction of DRS and at only 18 years old Devlin will be one of the youngest on the grid this year.

“I was originally asked to race GP3 last year by a few teams and asked if I would consider a few 1 off races this year” he commented.
“After considering changes the F3 and GP3 series are taking for 2019, switching to GP3 seems like the best option for the future. It will definitely be tough never having tested the car before but I’m super excited and up for the challenge”

DeFrancesco will also be taking part in several FIA F3 Championship weekends for the remainder of the season, hoping to build on a strong showing at the Hungaroring last time out.

“I’m fortunate I’m part of Carlin also and on some of the free weekends I’ll race FIA for additional track time.” Devlin added
“My first impressions of MP are very positive, they seem like a great bunch of guys and definitely work hard, nobody’s more excited to start than I am.”

Echoing Devlin’s comments Team Manager Sander Dorsman commented:

“We are happy to welcome Devlin in our team. His progress in British F4 and Euroformula Open was exciting to watch, and I’m sure that with us he will deliver on that promise. As a team, we will be there to help him get on with his first GP3 race weekend, and I’m convinced he will transform the experience into an ever-improving GP3 debut season.”
