Devlin DeFrancesco jumped into the top ten for the first time in an NTT INDYCAR SERIES  session this morning at the Detroit Grand Prix but traffic in qualifying proved to be a setback today at the Raceway at Belle Isle.

The 22-year Italian-Canadian rookie was eighth fastest in the morning session and was confident heading in qualifying today for Andretti Steinbrenner Autosport.

However, traffic on the tight and bumpy circuit was an issue and DeFrancesco could only record the 11th fastest time in his group.

That puts him 21st on the grid for tomorrow’s race which will be shown live on USA Network in the US.

“I dealt with so much traffic through the session. I don’t think we showed the No. 29 Andretti Steinbrenner PowerTap Honda’s potential,” DeFrancesco said.

“We have a good car. We’ll review the data for tomorrow. I think it’ll be a race of attrition, and I will have to position myself to take advantage of others’ mistakes and move through the field.”
