Devlin DeFrancesco was scored as the race leader for his first NTT INDYCAR SERIES race on the streets of Long Beach but came away from round thee of the championship disappointed.

The Italian-Canadian rookie pitted early under a full course yellow and then led the race during the pit shuffle before making his second stop on lap 34.

An incident in Turn 9 however brought the Andretti Steinbrenner Autosport driver’s race to an early end.

“I just locked up the front tires and, unfortunately, I smacked the wall and ended our race early,” DeFrancesco said.

“The car was good. I was really pushing. I just want to say sorry to the crew. This is a rough day for everybody.”

The next round of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES will be held at Alabama’s Barber Motorsports Park on May 1
