ST PETERSBURG, FL (Thursday, April 22, 2021) – Devlin DeFrancesco will contest his first street races in the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires championship at St. Petersburg this weekend.

The Andretti Steinbrenner Autosport racer sits second in the Indy Lights points standings after a pair of third-place finishes at Barber Motorsports Park.

DeFrancesco returns to St. Petersburg after clinching second place in the Indy Pro 2000 championship and earning the series rookie of the year award at the same Florida venue in October last year.

After his strong debut last weekend in Indy Lights, the Miami-based Italian-Canadian racer is looking to follow in the footsteps of past success on the streets of St. Petersburg for his team.

Andretti Steinbrenner Autosport scored pole and took the race two victory with Colton Herta in 2017. Andretti Autosport also scored pole positions and fastest laps here in both 2018 and 2019.

DeFrancesco hits the track on Friday for practice, and the two qualifying sessions. Rounds three and four of the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tire Championship will be staged on Saturday and Sunday.

All 20 rounds of the 2021 Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires championship will be shown live and on-demand in the United States on Peacock, NBCUniversal’s new streaming service.

Canadian audiences can watch the championship battle on REV TV, while international audiences can watch each and every round of the series on The Race YouTube channel by clicking here.

Backed by PowerTap Hydrogen in 2021, DeFrancesco’s other Indy Lights supporters include Kimoa – the fashion, clothing, and accessories brand founded by Fernando Alonso; world-class racing simulator manufacturer AIS; Apple’s largest premium retail partner, Simply Mac; software and services company Fyllo and Sol Yoga.

Q: How pleased were you with the opening two rounds of the championship?
A: “The positive part of the weekend was the fact we continued to make strong progress with the car in every session.
“My engineer Mark Bryant and all the Andretti Steinbrenner guys did an awesome job and finishing the opening rounds of the season in second place in the championship points is a very strong start.
“The competition here is extremely tough and we’ll be looking to make further positive strides this weekend at St. Petersburg.”

Q: How much are you looking forward to contesting your first Indy Lights street race?
A: “I’m really looking forward to heading back to St. Petersburg. We were only there back in October last year for the Indy Pro 2000 final round and I can’t wait to try the Indy Lights car there.
“I’ve been fortunate to race at some of the best street races in the world including Macau and Pau. They present a huge challenge as you have to push hard, but there are huge consequences if you get it wrong.
“Andretti Steinbrenner Autosport has had great success here in the past and I’m looking forward to targeting more success for them this week.
“I’ve been reviewing videos from past races. I know Andretti has had strong cars there in past years with Pato (O’Ward), Colton (Herta), and Oliver (Askew). We have high expectations for the weekend and are really going to be able to take the fight to HMD (Motorsports).”

Q: How do you undertake “virtual” preparation for the race weekends?
A: “I’m very fortunate with our partnership with AIS Simulators to be able to complete a bunch of virtual laps in an Indy Lights car before I even leave Miami.
“It really gives me an idea as to what to expect. The virtual simulations are getting better and better every year and it is a really valuable tool for me in my preparation.”
